Reps resume from annual recess Sept 26

The House of Representatives has announced it will resume sitting on Tuesday, September 26, 2023, to continue the first legislative year of the 10th Assembly, following its annual recess.

The spokesperson of the House, Akin Rotimi, said in a statement issued on Friday that the information had been conveyed to lawmakers by Dr. Yahaya Danzaria, the clerk of the House.

Newspot recalls that the 10th Assembly proceeded on a break on Thursday, July 27, 2023, following a plenary session during which the Speaker, Tajudeen Abbas, announced the leadership of the standing committees of the House.

The 10th Assembly has been very prolific in its 100 days of inauguration, recording the first reading of 470 bills, while four passed the second reading. The House also considered 175 motions.

Rotimi said: “Some of the key early developments expected on resumption are the conclusion of the work of all ad hoc committees and the submission of their reports for the consideration of the House, in line with the directives of the Rt. Honourable Speaker.

“It is also expected that the final draft of the Legislative Agenda, developed by the ad hoc committee led by House Leader, Hon. Prof. Julius Inhonvbere, will be considered and adopted by the House. The draft agenda was developed following extensive consultations with critical stakeholders. In the same vein, soon after the resumption, it is anticipated that the membership of the standing committees will be announced and fully constituted.”
