Abuja, Nigeria — The Police Service Commission (PSC) has reaffirmed its commitment to a transparent and inclusive recruitment process for 50,000 police officers. This followed a high-level stakeholders meeting held at the PSC headquarters in Abuja. The session brought together key institutions including the Nigeria Police Force and the Ministry of Police Affairs to fine-tune compliance, equity, and capacity considerations. The Commission emphasized that the process must reflect openness and stand as a benchmark for nationwide accountability.
The meeting, which held on 2nd December 2025, focused on establishing strict compliance with Federal Character principles. Leaders present stressed that equitable representation across states and geopolitical zones is not optional. PSC further committed to taking deliberate steps to ensure gender inclusivity by boosting female participation. Technology-driven systems will be deployed to eliminate interference and enhance public trust.
In his remarks, the Chairman of PSC, DIG Hashimu Salihu Argungu, represented at the meeting by DIG Taiwo Lakanu, reiterated the importance of fairness and merit. Lakanu, who also chairs PSC’s Standing Committee on Nigeria Police Force Matters, assured stakeholders of a credible outcome. The Ministry’s delegation was led by Dr. Anuma Ogbonnaya, who expressed optimism about inter-agency synergy. The recruitment framework, he noted, reflects national unity, governance compliance, and institutional capacity strengthening.
PSC has now assigned a communications lead role to the Head of Protocol & Public Affairs. This arm will coordinate stakeholder alignment, media access, and applicant expectations. Official assurance has been issued to prospective applicants and the public. It emphasizes full compliance with extant laws, gender inclusion, and constitutional accountability. This messaging will be carried through public channels to ensure consistent visibility and procedural momentum.
The press statement announcing post-meeting commitments was signed by the Head of Protocol & Public Affairs, Torty Njoku Kalu. It confirmed that further details, recruitment timelines, and nationwide rollout plans will be announced soon. PSC stressed that the Commission will not communicate prematurely, but will speak clearly and publicly when ready. This position reinforces credibility and builds procedural confidence across recruitment layers. Stakeholder coordination is expected to intensify in the coming days as alignment advances rapidly across agencies.
