Randal Alonzo Mangham, Georgia’s distinguished State Senator representing District 55, exemplifies a rare blend of intellect, faith, and cultural consciousness that mirrors the spirit of modern diaspora leadership. A trained attorney, ordained minister, and long-serving public servant, Mangham’s career bridges law, community, and spirituality—three pillars that define his enduring impact in American politics.
Born and raised in Georgia, Mangham earned both his Bachelor’s and Juris Doctor degrees from Howard University, before completing a Master of Divinity at Emory University’s Candler School of Theology. That academic foundation, rooted in excellence and faith, has shaped a political philosophy anchored on service, equality, and moral responsibility.
Mangham currently serves as a Democratic Senator in the Georgia State Senate, a position he assumed on January 13, 2025, after winning the 2024 general election with 76 percent of the vote. His term runs through January 2027. Prior to his Senate victory, he served for nearly a decade in the Georgia House of Representatives, where he earned respect for his principled stands on justice, transparency, and economic inclusion.
Throughout his public service career, Mangham has consistently uplifted the African-American experience and its connections to the broader African diaspora. While in the House, he supported resolutions marking Africa Day and Africa Diaspora Day, celebrating the shared heritage of Africans and their descendants. Today, he continues that legacy by engaging Black fraternities, sororities, and historically Black colleges (HBCUs) through the proposed Divine Nine / HBCU Day at the Georgia State Capitol—an initiative aimed at recognizing the cultural and educational institutions that have anchored Black progress in America.
In the Georgia Senate, Mangham serves on key committees including Banking and Financial Institutions, Health and Human Services, Interstate Cooperation, MARTOC, Retirement, and State and Local Governmental Operations. These roles enable him to influence legislation that fosters fairness, economic empowerment, and access to opportunity—values that resonate deeply within diaspora communities seeking inclusion and representation.
His leadership also extends beyond politics. As a founding board member of the Georgia Association of African American Attorneys, and a former city attorney and judge in Greenville, Georgia, Mangham’s career continues to exemplify integrity and service rooted in both faith and justice.
