Washington, D.C. — President Donald J. Trump has delivered a fiery rebuke of billionaire tech mogul Elon Musk, accusing him of veering “completely off the rails” and warning that his rumored move to launch a Third Political Party would throw America into deeper chaos.
In a no-holds-barred statement posted on Truth Social Friday afternoon, President Trump expressed concern over what he described as Musk’s recent erratic behavior, saying the Tesla and SpaceX CEO has become a “TRAIN WRECK” in just five weeks.
“He even wants to start a Third Political Party, despite the fact that they have never succeeded in the United States,” Trump wrote. “The System seems not designed for them… all they bring is DISRUPTION & CHAOS.”
Trump drew a sharp contrast between Musk’s alleged chaos and what he called the “smooth-running Republican machine,” boasting that his party had just passed the largest bill of its kind in American history. The bill, championed by the president, kills off the Electric Vehicle (EV) Mandate, a policy Musk’s business empire has benefited from.
“I have been strongly opposed to that [mandate] from the very beginning. People are now allowed to buy whatever they want – Gasoline Powered, Hybrids, or New Technologies. No more EV Mandate,” he declared.
President Trump revealed that Elon Musk had given him his full endorsement in the past, even though Trump had been very vocal about ending EV mandates. He said Musk expressed no concern at the time, a stance Trump now finds “very surprising.”
Adding fuel to the fire, Trump disclosed that Musk had once recommended a friend to lead NASA, someone he later discovered to be a lifelong Democrat who had never supported a Republican candidate.
“When NASA is such a big part of Elon’s corporate life, I thought it inappropriate that a very close friend of Elon, who was in the Space Business, run NASA,” Trump noted.
As the sitting president, Trump’s remarks highlight growing tensions between tech titans and Washington leadership. The unfolding drama also signals a possible fracture in the uneasy alliance between Trump’s populist politics and Silicon Valley innovation.
For readers across Africa, especially in Nigeria, Newspot Nigeria notes the parallels: powerful private interests clashing with national policy goals, and the delicate balance between environmental mandates and market freedom. Nigeria’s own debate over EV policy, green energy incentives, and foreign tech partnerships continues to echo some of the same themes playing out in Washington.
Whether Musk will respond directly remains to be seen. But if this latest outburst is any indication, the battle lines between President Trump and Elon Musk are now officially drawn—and 2026 may become even more dramatic.
