People call me monster, leopard, says 14-year-old Nigerian girl with freckles

A 14-year-old girl, Catherine Oluwatomisin, with freckles on her skin, speaks about the difficulties of living with the skin condition.

She disclosed that she was nicknamed a leopard and a monster by some people because of the spots on her skin, adding that she suffered from low self-esteem and depression as a result of the way people discriminated against her.

Oluwatomisin’s mother, Adeola Abidemi, in an interview with The PUNCH, said that her daughter developed freckles at the age of one, adding that she was told at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital that the condition was caused by exposure to the sun.
