The Oyo State Government has officially inaugurated the committee tasked with organizing the coronation ceremony of His Imperial Majesty, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade, the new Alaafin of Oyo. The ceremony is set to be a significant event in the cultural heritage of the Oyo people.
The inaugural meeting took place today, presided over by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Hon. Ademola Ojo. In a statement released from the office of the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Prince Dotun Oyelade, the committee has been formed with a diverse representation from various sectors of the state.
Key members of the committee include four members of the Oyo State cabinet: Prof. Musibau Babatunde, Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning; Dr. Wasiu Olatunbosun, Commissioner for Culture and Tourism; Hon. Ademola Ojo; and Prince Dotun Oyelade himself. Additionally, three House of Assembly members from Oyo Constituency have been appointed, namely Hon. Gbenga Oyekola, Hon. Rahman Olorunpoto, and Hon. Oladeji Oparinde.
The committee also comprises local government chairpersons, including Hon. Akeem Olukitibi from Oyo West, Hon. Wahab Adetunji from Atiba, Hon. Sola Oluokun from Oyo East, and Hon. Olufemi Aikomo from Afijio. Furthermore, family members of the new Alaafin, religious leaders, and other stakeholders are involved in the planning.
Commissioner Ojo emphasized that preparations are underway to ensure the coronation adheres to the rich traditions of the Oyo people. He highlighted that the Seyi Makinde administration has successfully crowned 10 kings and 40 Baales over the past five years, showcasing the state’s commitment to its cultural heritage.
Governor Seyi Makinde has called for diligence and maximum support from all committee members to ensure the success of this historic event.

*Oyo Inaugurates Alaafin’s Coronation Committee*
The Oyo State Government, today inaugurated the committee set up for the coronation ceremony of His Imperial Majesty, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade, the Alaafin of Oyo.
In a statement issued from the office of the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Prince Dotun Oyelade, the inaugural meeting was presided over by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Hon. Ademola Ojo.

According to the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, arrangements have started in earnest to ensure a successful coronation in strict compliance with the tradition of Oyo people.
The Commissioner for Information recalled that in the past five years, the Seyi Makinde administration has coronated 10 Kings and 40 Baales.
The Commissioner said that Governor Seyi Makinde expects everyone involved in the coronation to be diligent and show maximum support for the success of the event.
