The spokesperson for Governor Ademola Adeleke, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, has urged Osun workers to disregard recent claims made by a faceless labour group regarding state pension and salary payments, labeling them as the misguided outbursts of an anti-labour faction aligned with the opposition All Progressive Congress (APC).

Rasheed emphasized that the legitimate representatives of the labour movement in Osun are the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC). He highlighted the accolades these organizations have bestowed upon Governor Adeleke for his commendable efforts in prioritizing worker welfare, pension payments, and overall support for the workforce in the state.

According to statements from the NLC and TUC, Governor Adeleke has been referred to as the most supportive leader for the labour movement in Osun’s history, a sentiment echoed by many workers and pensioners.

The spokesperson dismissed the so-called Osun Workers Union (OWU) as a mere extension of the APC, which he claimed is attempting to mask its negative legacy regarding workers’ rights and welfare during its governance.

Rasheed noted that Osun workers are united in their determination to resist any attempts to return to the hardships faced under previous administrations. They remember the former government’s neglect in paying pensions, the persistent debt of half salaries, stunted promotion policies, and the overall degradation of public service.

Workers have rallied behind the current administration for several reasons: prioritizing welfare in governance, settling a significant portion of the half salary debt that the APC neglected, paying nearly N50 billion in pension debt within two years—a stark contrast to the N45 billion paid over twelve years by the APC—along with settling promotion arrears and ensuring regular promotions.

Governor Adeleke’s administration is viewed as a beacon of hope for Osun workers, signaling a commitment to good governance and worker welfare.
