The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has condemned the attack on Remi Omowaiye, a former Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, and some other APC members by suspected political hoodlums in the Ilesa-West local government council area of the state.

Newspot learnt that Omowaiye and his supporters were attacked by thugs at the popular Isida Motor Spare Parts Market in Ilesa on Friday.

Omowaiye, who hails from Ilesa and was a former cabinet member in the Adegboyega Oyetola administration, was in the market to felicitate with the traders and market leadership over the yuletide when sporadic gunshots were heard, and everyone started scampering for safety.

Condemning the attack, the state Acting APC Chairman, Tajudeen Lawal, via a statement by Kola Olabisi, the Osun APC Director of Media, bemoaned the attack on Omowaiye and his supporters.

Lawal also stated that the attack was unacceptable, barbaric, cruel and condemnable.

He called on the Osun State Commissioner of Police and other security agencies in the state to rise to their responsibility of ensuring the safety of lives and properties irrespective of political leanings.

“There should not be a sacred cow in the efforts to unravel those behind the shameless and inhuman activities against the members of the opposition.

“The security agencies should perform their statutory duties without fear or favour in the overall interest of the safety of the people of the state.”

The state acting APC chairman explained that it was appalling, worrisome and disturbing that the state has not known peace since the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led administration of Ademola Adeleke was inaugurated less than one month ago.

He hinted that it was a pity that the hitherto one of the most peaceful states in Nigeria is fast sliding into an abode of anarchy, violence and visible oppression under the administration of PDP-led administration of Governor Adeleke.

The former commissioner disclosed that the incident had been reported at Ayeso Police Station, Ilesa, and asked the security authority to investigate the incident to bring the culprits and their masterminds, who are known faces in the community, to book.

The spokesperson of the Osun Police Command, Yemisi Opalola, in a telephone conversation with Newspot, disclosed that the police were aware of the development.

Opalola explained that the Commissioner of Police, Patrick Kehinde Longe, has also been to Ilesa to assess the situation personally.

She, however, stated that investigations have commenced into the matter.
