Kebbi State government has vowed that it will take control of the activities of the newly constructed Birinin Kebbi central motor park without much interference of the the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW.
Speaking after taking newsmen round the park, the State Commissioner for Information and Culture, Alhaji Yakubu Ahmad said that the State government constructed the park to generate revenue.
He explained that the park was constructed by an indigenous construction company at the cost of over N2 billion, aiming at reducing the rate of unemployment in the State.
On the newly constructed State Secretariat, the Commissioner noted that former Governor Saidu Dakingari initiated the project and awarded the contract in 2012 at the cost of N3.7 billion Naria but abandoned the project later.
“The project was about 30-40 percent when former Governor Dakingarin abandoned it.
“When the present administration being led by Nasiru Idris came on board, the contract continued with an increase of N1.7 billion,” he said.
Continuing, he said that the State Secretariat will accommodate all the 25 ministries in the State, stressing that State government agencies and parastatals will be accommodated at the old secretariat.
“The State government will no longer waste money to rent accommodation for its agencies and parastatals,” he added.
