NSCDC warns operatives on effective management of arms, ammunition

The Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Dr Ahmed Abubakar Audi, has charged all armourers and unit commanders with the need to discharge their duties in line with the corps’ standard operating procedures and in tandem with global best practices.

NSCDC National Public Relations Officer CSC Babawale Zaid Afolabi said in a statement on Saturday that Audi stated this at a one-day strategic meeting held with all armourers and unit commanders from various formations across the nation at the headquarters in Abuja.

According to him, the strategic meeting was apt and central to enhancing the corporate and effective management of arms and ammunition in the Corps

“We will not open our eyes and let any indiscriminate behaviour pass. Our eagle eyes are watching you very closely and in your interest; if you are involved in mishandling arms and ammunition, you better desist with immediate effect or you will be shown the way out,” Audi warned.

The NSCDC boss reportedly directed that records of movements of all arms and ammunition must be adequately kept, while timely briefings should be channelled regularly to the state commandants and the national commandant on armament.

He also noted that armourers and unit commanders must have passed through weapon training and must be appointed from among general duty officers.

While assuring the attendees of his administration’s commitment to continuous training and retraining this year, Audi reiterated that the meeting became necessary to re-echo the stance of NSCDC and enhance its overall performance to effectively deliver on its mandate.
