Workers at local government councils in Delta State Tuesday complied with the instruction to stay off their duty posts by the branch leadership of Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees, (NULGE).

Those in Oshimili South, Asaba and Warri South local government councils shut all offices and health centers.

A terse directive sighted by our correspondent read: “NULGE WEE! Pls Note that the strike is on as directed by the leadership of NLC and TUC. Please comply to avoid further sanction”.

The strike recorded reasonable compliance in the state as a seminar scheduled for today, Tuesday November 14 and Wednesday November 15, was cancelled by the organizers.

The two-day seminar/workshop billed to be attended by O/C Salary & Assistant, Cashier & Assistant, Internal Auditor and Checkers (serving in local government councils across Delta North Senatorial District) have been cancelled and the Delta State Local Government Service Commission, duly communicated.

Again, the main entrance of Delta Ports, Warri, was barricaded on Tuesday morning by trade union officials enforcing compliance with the NLC/TUC strike.

In the same vein, students and pupils of public primary and secondary schools in Asaba and Warri were sent home.

However, checks by Newspot revealed that some privately owned primary and secondary schools in Asaba and Warri did not comply with the strike order.
