NlMET had predicted heavy rainfall and potential flooding in Ekiti and twelve other states in its recent forecast.

In reaction, the Ekiti State Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Erelu Tosin Ajisafe, in a statement urged residents to take the warnings seriously, noting that the state government has initiated efforts to forestall any adverse weather situations.

She said the Ekiti government has approved a work plan to clear blocked drainages and waterways in Ado, Ikere and Ekiti South-West Local Government and the debilitation of lined drains, culverts and access slabs in Ado, Ikere and Irepodun/Ifelodun Local government, which are considered high-risk flood zones between June to October 2024.
