Niger: Bago unveils green economy blueprint at COP28

Governor Umaru Bago presented a comprehensive green economy blueprint at the ongoing COP28 Climate Summit in the United Arab Emirates on Friday.

Governor Bago, who outlined the key mandates of the green economy initiative, emphasized the government’s commitment to environmental conservation, management of carbon sink assets, sustainable resource management, renewable energy development, inclusivity, and private sector-led job creation, particularly in green sectors.

The governor highlighted the state’s commitment to long-term sustainability by planning to plant one billion trees for carbon credits sequestration.

He said the initiative will cover 760,000 hectares of land over the next four to five years.

Governor Bago disclosed plans to develop around 100 such estates across the state, strategically managing water resources, cultivating crops, creating employment opportunities, and generating wealth for citizens.
