Niger Assembly passes 2025 appropriation Bill of N1,558trn into law

The Niger State House of Assembly has passed the 2025 Appropriation Bill into law, with a total budget size of N1.558 trillion.

The bill, tagged “Budget of Hope for Sustainability and Food Security,” was presented by Governor Mohammad Umar Bago on December 12, 2024.

The breakdown of the budget shows that N1.359 trillion was allocated for capital expenditure while N199.235 billion was allocated for recurrent expenditure.

During the presentation of the report, the Chairman of the House Appropriation Committee, Zubairu Ismaila (Rafi), noted that the late submission of the budget resulted in a rushed scrutiny process.

He recommended that the executive arm ensure that yearly budget estimates are laid before the legislature at least three months before the end of the year for proper scrutiny and passage into law.

The House later went into the Committee of Supply for clause-by-clause consideration of the report, after which the Speaker, Abdulmalik Mohammed Sarkin-Daji, called for the adoption of the report.

The House unanimously adopted and passed the report as the 2025 Appropriation Law.

The Speaker commended the House Committee on Appropriation and members of the various House standing committees for their hard work.

He then appealed to the people of Niger State to continue supporting government policies and programs and to offer useful advice in this direction.
