Banks in some parts of Nigeria are doling out few old naira notes to their customers. The limit some of these customers can have is between N5,000 and N10,000.

Newspot reporter that went round Abuja discovered some customers returned home frustrated when they were told the banks have exhausted the amount of old notes allocated to them.

One of the Bankers who which to remain anonymous said the Central Bank was playing pranks. The statement that it had complied with the Supreme Court was a fluke.

“It will start releasing old and new notes after the Gubernatorial and state assembly elections on Saturday 18 March” he said

However despite the CBN’s statement the Nigeria Labour Congress insisted on going ahead with it’s seven-day ultimatum to the Federal Government to resolve the cash constraint

The CBN’s announcement was supposed to eliminate the shortage of both old and new naira notes that had hurt so many people but the problem might not be resolved anytime soon.

“We are paying the old notes, but if you want to deposit them, you must go and generate the pin from the CBN web,” stated one of the bank employees who helped our correspondent.
