Mburubu Igweship tussle: Enugu community leaders issue warning

Titled men, under the aegis of ‘Nzukọ ndị Ọzọ Mburubu’, in Nkanu East Local Government Area of Enugu State, have issued a stern warning to those said to be pushing the community into unnecessary crisis.

Newspot reports that Mburubu community has been enmeshed in controversy, with two groups laying claim to the traditional stool.

However, in a statement issued on Tuesday, the Nzukọ ndị Ọzọ said the decision of the General Assembly was irrevocable.

It cautioned those trying to undermine the recently elected Igwe, Chief Patrick Jerry Onuokaibe, accusing them of pursuing personal gains over the community’s welfare.

The statement was signed by the National Chairman, Chief Chinedu Ezechukwu (Ọzọ ebubedike na Mburubu) and the National Secretary, Comrade Chukwudi Sylvanus (Ọzọ omemgboji na Mburubu).

The group declared that any entity opposing Chief Onuokaibe’s nomination does so for self-interest, not the community’s well-being.

The statement singled out one Prince Ezeh as the main detractor, alleging that he aims to turn the community into his personal fiefdom.

They rejected a recent communiqué by a group identified as Mburubu Council of Chiefs, which disowned Chief Patrick Onuokaibe as the Igwe-elect.

According to them, “Chief Onuokaibe’s nomination resulted from a unanimous decision by community leaders and enjoys broad endorsement.”

“Despite the overwhelming support from Mburubu leaders, Prince Ezeh is driven by personal motives that do not align with the community’s best interests.”

The group reiterated the community’s firm decision in choosing Onuokaibe as their Igwe and denounced any attempts to undermine the choice.

The community leaders called on Onuokaibe “to disregard the assertions made by the Mburubu Council of Chiefs.”

They called for the restoration of unity in the community.

“Baseless accusations in the media will not do any good. We urge the community to come together in unity,” they concluded.
