The backcourt player from Füchse Berlin won by a large margin ahead of Spanish goalkeeper Sergey Hernandez, who became German champion this season with SC Magdeburg.

The decision was made equally by a fan vote and the votes of the Bundesliga coaches and captains.

The 27-year-old surpassed his own record with 317 field goals and also became the first player in Bundesliga history to win the leading goalscorer award without a single seven-meter goal. With an average of 9.3 goals per game, the Dane set another Bundesliga record.

On the final matchday, Gidsel also set his personal best in a single game with 18 goals against SG Flensburg-Handewitt. With Füchse Berlin, Gidsel finished as Bundesliga runners-up and won the German Cup.
