Abuja – At the high-profile National Summit on the Future of Nigeria’s Constitutional Democracy held at the Transcorp Hilton in Abuja, Hajia Maryam Inna Ciroma, CON, delivered a powerful goodwill message urging national leaders and stakeholders to build a Constitution rooted in justice, equity, and participation.
Addressing an audience of distinguished statesmen, women leaders, and members of the Nigerian Political Summit Group, Ciroma applauded the conveners, particularly The Patriots and Chief Emeka Anyaoku, for creating a space to reimagine Nigeria’s constitutional framework in a way that reflects the realities and aspirations of the Nigerian people.

“This summit is a clarion call,” Ciroma stated. “It reminds us that no nation can rise above the strength of its institutions or the quality of its constitutional foundation.” She criticized the long-standing framework that, according to her, fails to accommodate the diverse voices across Nigeria’s regions, generations, and political divides.

Ciroma emphasized gender inclusivity, asserting it should no longer be treated as a mere aspiration but as “a guaranteed constitutional right.” She further stressed the need for a new Constitution that ensures full participation of women in governance at all levels.

Equally, she championed the rights and welfare of children, advocating for their protection to be central in the constitutional reform process. “Our future as a nation depends on how well we educate and empower our youngest citizens,” she said, calling for legal guarantees for every child’s safety, access to healthcare and education, and protection from exploitation.
Describing the summit as a “historic opportunity,” Ciroma encouraged all participants to approach the dialogue with open minds and a commitment to a Nigeria where “every voice matters, every child is protected, and every woman is empowered to lead.”
As Nigeria looks to redefine its democratic foundations, her message added weight to growing calls for a people-driven Constitution that unites rather than divides, transforms rather than preserves the status quo.
