Mason Greenwood was delighted to register his first goal for Getafe after he joined the Spanish side on loan from Manchester United this summer.

Greenwood left Old Trafford in August following the club’s internal investigation into his actions and headed to La Liga on a season-long loan.

The 22-year-old was suspended by United in January 2022 after he was arrested and subsequently charged by Manchester Police with attempted rape, controlling behaviour and assault.

All charges against Greenwood were dropped in February but United decided to conduct their own probe, eventually deciding to loan the player out to Getafe.

Controversy has followed the Englishman to Spain, with rival fans heard chanting ‘Greenwood, die’ last month.

Greenwood has made five appearances for Getafe so far and registered his first goal for the club in a 2-2 La Liga draw against Celta Vigo on Sunday.

‘Happy to score my first goal for [Getafe],’ Greenwood posted on Instagram after the match.

‘Amazing team spirit to come away from the game with a point.’

Greenwood still wants to play for United again one day – and is refusing to give up on a return when his loan at Getafe ends – according to reports.

Getafe, meanwhile, are 11th in the La Liga table after their opening nine matches of the season.
