Arsenal and Luton played out a behind-closed-doors friendly on Thursday night, with Leandro Trossard scoring twice in a 3-0 win for the Gunners.

Mikel Arteta’s team do not play until Monday night when they take on Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park, while Luton are not in Premier League action at all over the coming set of fixtures as Kenilworth Road is being revamped.

The two teams played at London Colney over three 30-minute thirds, with Trossard scoring two and Bukayo Saka netting the other goal.

David Raya pulled on an Arsenal shirt for the first time as the Spain international turned out in the match after his switch from Brentford.

Oleksandr Zinchenko was also involved as he recovers from injury, having missed the Community Shield and the Premier League opener against Nottingham Forest.

Arteta spoke about Raya’s arrival at Arsenal and the competition he will bring for established goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale in his pre-match press conference ahead of the Palace game.

‘When we had different goalkeepers there were questions as well,’ Arteta said. ‘To have two excellent goalkeepers is great – there’s nothing wrong with it. We have two great left-wingers and two great strikers and two great holding midfielders. We have Jorginho, Thomas and Declan and that is not a problem, and it should not be a problem.

‘We want to be better every single day and to be better the environment has to change and be better. We tend to always be at a certain level because it’s in our nature – when you change the environment and the environment is to be 100 per cent every day, believe me, the level is going to increase.

‘I’ve seen that close up with my own eyes with the players that we have now, compared to the players we had two years ago. If we want to be better, we have to create that environment.’
