The Lagos State Government, on Tuesday, said it would intensify the training of its employees by increasing the number of public servants trained in a year as well as improve on its training programmes.

Speaking during a meeting with the management staff of the Ministry of Establishments and Training at Alausa on Tuesday, the newly sworn-in Commissioner for Establishments and Training, Mr Afolabi Ayantayo, stressed that human resource development is crucial to achieving the Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s T.H.E.M.E.S.+ Agenda.

The commissioner, who assured the staff of the ministry that he was ready to offer the required leadership for better performance, demanded greater efforts, cooperation and commitment from all staff. He told the staff that with their support, the ministry would actualise Sanwo-Olu’s mandate on capacity building.

“I therefore charge you all to intensify your efforts so that we can justify the confidence Mr Governor reposed in us by delivering on the mandate of the ministry,” he said.

He added that it is imperative to design and pursue capacity-building programmes to enhance the skills and competencies required to drive the government agenda.

Ayantayo, who commended organised labour for the relative peace in the state, said the “state government would continue to work closely with the state branches of the Nigerian Labour and Trade Union Congress and their affiliates to maintain the industrial peace and harmony.”

He added that his vision is to “increase the number of public servants to be trained in a year, improve on the number of training programmes, maintain industrial peace and ensure that the Public Service gets appropriate advice with regard to establishment matters as well as ensuring the target of ‘Pay As You Go’ in the pension administration.”
