Obasa was recently impeached and replaced with Mojisola Meranda by Lagos State lawmakers while he was in the United States.

The Lagos State lawmakers impeached Obasa over allegations of fraudulent practices, among other claims.

Upon his return to Nigeria on Saturday, Obasa insisted that he was still the Speaker because the impeachment did not follow due process.

Addressing his followers, Obasa challenged those accusing him of fraudulent practices to provide evidence, stating that he had documents for all expenditures during his tenure as Speaker.

Reacting, Mamora cited Section 92 of the Constitution, which states that a two-thirds majority of lawmakers is needed to impeach a Speaker.

In a statement he signed, the former Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly said: “Obasa was impeached and removed because there was a presentation of allegations, as I watched on television.

“Whether the allegations were true is for the assembly members to determine, but the process was constitutional.

“If it is true that Obasa disrespected the Office of the Governor, that would be unacceptable. The Governor is the chief executive and deserves respect from all quarters.”
