The Coordinator of the Office of the First Lady of Akwa Ibom State, Lady Helen Eno Obareki, has called for increased investment in science and technology education, describing it as essential for preparing children to compete successfully in a rapidly evolving global economy.
Lady Obareki made the call during the public launch of the *Intermediate Science and Technology for Primary Schools Books 1–6*, published by El-Sharon Educonsult Plus Limited in Uyo. She was represented at the event by the wife of the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Inemesit Uwah.
Speaking at the ceremony, Lady Obareki described the dedication of the six-volume textbook series to her as a great honour and a reflection of Akwa Ibom State’s commitment to advancing education. She emphasized that education remains the foundation of societal transformation, while science and technology have become indispensable tools for national development in the 21st century.
According to her, the newly launched textbooks simplify complex scientific concepts and make them more engaging and relatable for young learners. She noted that the initiative aligns with Governor Umo Eno’s ARISE Agenda, which prioritizes innovation, human capital development, improved school infrastructure, teacher development, and a conducive learning environment for pupils across the state.
Lady Obareki also highlighted the achievements of the Patience Umo Eno Golden Initiative For All (GIFA), revealing that more than 20,000 beneficiaries have been impacted through various educational interventions under the programme. She said GIFA’s literacy enhancement projects, including the distribution of Back-to-School packs and learning materials, have helped support pupils in public schools while encouraging adult literacy among older residents.
She stressed that education remains one of the most powerful tools for breaking the cycle of poverty and social exclusion, adding that the state government and its partners remain committed to ensuring that no child is left behind.
The First Lady’s coordinator commended El-Sharon Educonsult Plus Limited for producing quality educational materials and urged corporate organisations, local government chairmen, philanthropists, school administrators, and other stakeholders to support the initiative by purchasing and distributing the books to schools across the state.
“Buying these books and making them available to our schools is an investment in the next generation of engineers, scientists, and technology innovators in Akwa Ibom State,” she stated.
Earlier, the Lead Consultant of El-Sharon Educonsult Plus Limited, Mrs. Veronica Ibanga, reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to promoting quality education through publishing, educational consultancy, and curriculum development services.
Mrs. Ibanga, an accomplished author and publisher with 36 books to her credit, explained that the *Intermediate Science and Technology* series was carefully developed in line with the Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC) curriculum to improve teaching and learning outcomes in primary schools.
She noted that the company’s instructional materials have gained widespread acceptance among educational institutions within and outside Akwa Ibom State due to their quality and relevance. She added that the organisation remains committed to providing innovative educational solutions that support academic excellence and national development.
The event, held at the NULGE Hall in Uyo, featured the formal unveiling and launch of the six-volume textbook series by Lady Obareki’s representative and other stakeholders. Goodwill messages were delivered by guests, while the Word of Faith Schools Cultural Troupe entertained attendees with a cultural dance presentation.
