He announced on Friday that free school education would begin with the next academic session.

The governor, who made the announcement while on an assessment tour of primary and secondary schools in Wukari Local Government Council, stated that the action is intended to mitigate the effects of the removal of the petrol subsidy.

Primary and secondary education in Taraba will be free beginning with the next academic session, which begins in September 2023, he said.

He also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to immediately begin a massive renovation of most of the schools to meet the demands of modern education.

“Let me announce to you that by the next academic session, the state government will take responsibility for school fees, and all of you will attend school free of charge,” he said.

His administration, he said, “will continue to support you in obtaining access to high-quality education in order to ensure a brighter future for our state.”

Newspot recalls that the governor recently declared a state of emergency for primary and secondary education in the state.

His action comes just a few days after tuition fees at the state university and the College of Nursing and Midwifery were reduced by half.

Elated by the development, Zonal Director of Education Daniel Nuhu stated that the action would go a long way in turning around the fortunes of the state’s less privileged by granting them equal access to quality education.
