Justice Sikiru Adeyinka Oyinloye Is Dead

Justice Sikiru Adeyinka Oyinloye of the Kwara State High Court has passed away at the age of 58. He died on Sunday night after a long battle with a neck-related illness, according to sources. The late jurist was highly respected for his strict and no-nonsense disposition in court, and he was known for his impartiality and hard work. Oyinloye was from Ijara Isin in Isin local government area of Kwara State and was previously with Babalakin & Co. before being appointed a Judge of Kwara State High Court.

During his time on the bench, Justice Oyinloye presided over many notable cases, including the conviction of several internet fraudsters who were arraigned by the EFCC. He ordered the forfeiture of their proceeds of crime, including exotic cars and thousands of dollars, as restitution to the federal government. In 2017, he also slammed a N4bn judgment against Sahara Reporters and its publisher, Omoyele Sowore, over a series of stories published in 2015 against former Senate President, Bukola Saraki. The judgment was later appealed.

On March 12, 2021, Justice Oyinloye convicted and sentenced a 38-year-old lecturer at the Kwara State College of Health Technology (Health Tech) Offa, Adebisi Ademola, to six months imprisonment over his involvement in a love scam. The late jurist was known for his unwavering commitment to justice, and he always ensured that justice was served, regardless of who was involved.

The death of Justice Oyinloye has been described as a great loss by Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq. In a condolence statement, the Governor said that the late judge was an upright and brilliant judge who left a legacy of uprightness, hard work, and brilliance. He also extended his condolences to the family of the deceased, the Kwara State judiciary, the people of Isin local government, and everyone who mourns the late judge. The Governor prayed that Allah would grant him Al-jannah Firdaus and comfort the family that survived him.

Justice Oyinloye’s corpse departed his official residence, Judges’ quarters, Ilorin, at 8:00 am on Monday to Ijara-Isin for his Janazah and interment according to Islamic rites. The late jurist was a respected member of the legal community, and his contributions to the judiciary in Kwara State will not be forgotten.
