Sequel to the collapse of a two-storey building at Saints Academy Jos, Plateau State on Friday, the Dr Isa El-Buba Foundation has called on authorities and stakeholders to conduct a thorough investigation into the cause of the collapse.
The organisation also called on the government to take immediate action and proactive steps to forestall future occurrences.
It further called on the government to direct that all buildings around the school environment be sealed and owners adequately compensated.
The call was made through the organisation’s Executive Director, Mrs Deborah Atubi when she visited the scene of the incident on Saturday.
She said, “The Dr Isa El-Buba Foundation is deeply saddened by the tragic collapse of the two-storey Saint Academy school building at Bussa Buchi, Jos, Plateau State, which has resulted in the loss of precious lives and injuries to numerous students and teachers.
“We commiserate with the families of the victims and extend our heartfelt condolences to bereaved families, families of all the victims, the people and Government of Plateau State and all those affected by this devastating incident. Our thoughts and prayers are with them in this difficult time.
“We urge authorities and stakeholders to conduct a thorough investigation into the cause of the collapse and take immediate action and proactive steps to avert future occurrences as the safety and well-being of our children and educators must remain paramount.
“Whilst we commend the swift response by the good people and Government of Plateau State in supporting rescue efforts and footing medical bills of victims accordingly, we call on Governments, communities, and public-spirited individuals to continue to support the families of the victims and the injured”, she maintained.
“Indeed this is the time to Stand with the Plateau. On our part, We pledge our support and resources to assist in any way possible.
“Let us work together to ensure that our schools are safe and conducive for learning and that such a tragedy doesn’t occur again”, she admonished.
“In a similar vein, educationists must take extreme caution and seriousness in looking after the precious lives of children entrusted into their care.
“We want to call on the government to as a matter of urgency direct that all buildings around Saints Academy Jos be sealed and owners should be adequately compensated”, Atubi stressed.
