The is a five-year program funded by USAID’s Office of Health Systems and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation that provides catalytic support to countries as they tackle vexing health systems challenges and accelerate progress toward self-reliance. The Accelerator is led by R4D with support from Health Strategy and Delivery Foundation (HSDF) and ICF.

In 2023, the Accelerator will conduct a COVID-19 assessment, which focuses on integrating COVID-19 vaccine delivery into routine immunization programs and primary health systems.

Scope of Work

The Accelerator seeks an assistant qualitative researcher who demonstrates experience in notetaking and transcription of qualitative interviews, organizing and facilitating workshops, and coordinating communications with government and other stakeholders. The consultant will schedule interviews and focus group discussions, support initial data collection in Nigeria, take notes during interviews, review additional documents obtained during data collection and assist with the initial data analysis when needed. Fluency in English required, as all in-country research will be done in English.

Activities and expected deliverables

  • The consultant will support and/or contribute to the following activities:
  • Supporting in-country IRB submission, if needed
  • Attending data collection training
  • Managing logistics of in-country meetings
  • Managing logistics of data collection activities, including organizing transportation, setting up recording equipment, and collating consent forms, as needed.
  • Scheduling and supporting in-depth interviews (with approximately 20-25 individuals) and 2-3 focus group discussions
  • Sitting in on and taking notes during data collection activities
  • Transcribing interviews and focus group discussions
  • Coding transcripts using a codebook provided by the assessment team
  • Reviewing additional documents obtained from interviews and site visits
  • Carrying out initial data analysis
  • Providing inputs to the draft country report
  • Providing inputs to global-level project documents and activities, as requested

Timeline and Level of Effort * The consultancy is expected to require approximately 23 days between June 2023 and January 2024.

  • The consultant will work closely with a Lead Data Collector Consultant and an R4D team of 3-4 people, including a Senior Program Director, Senior Program Officer, and Senior Program Associate, who will provide inputs to work based on Accelerator experience, support coordination with partners and funders, and lead the completion of the data analysis.
