The Nigeria Police Force has warned political parties to avoid any thuggery, personal attacks, and spreading of fake news capable of inciting violence ahead of the 2023 general election.

Commissioner of Police Jigawa State, Emmanuel Effiom Ekot, made the call at the signing of the peace accord by the gubernatorial candidates of the state held at the police headquarters in Dutse, the state capital.

He said the aim is to ensure hitch-free campaigns/rallies and a secure environment for free, fair, credible, and non-violent elections.

The commissioner, therefore, urged the political parties to support and work closely with police and other security agencies.

According to him, “I am urging you and your supporters to shun incense and inciting statements, vandalization of opposition parties property, thuggery and personal attack.
