JEDDAH — In a groundbreaking development for maritime transportation, Jeddah has officially commenced the test run of its much-anticipated sea taxi service. The project, inaugurated by Jeddah Mayor Saleh Al-Turki, aims to connect three key waterfront locations: the Jeddah Yacht Club, the Historic Jeddah District, and the Sharm Obhur District.

The sea taxi service operates daily during Ramadan from 3:30 pm to 1:30 am, with fares ranging between SR25 and SR50. Notably, children will ride free of charge. Initially, the service will utilize two boats, accommodating 94 and 55 passengers respectively, with specialized access for individuals with disabilities.

Mayor Al-Turki emphasized the project’s significance as a strategic addition to Jeddah’s transportation infrastructure, enhancing the quality of life for citizens, residents, and visitors alike. “This initiative reflects our commitment to modernizing transportation options and promoting maritime tourism in the region,” he stated.

The sea taxi initiative is part of a broader vision to develop Jeddah’s water transport sector, with plans to expand services to additional locations along the city’s picturesque waterfront. The Jeddah Mayoralty is also advancing the establishment of 20 state-of-the-art water taxi stations, each capable of accommodating 29,000 passengers daily, aiming to alleviate traffic congestion and improve public transportation.

As Jeddah embraces this innovative transport solution, it marks a significant step toward fostering a vibrant maritime culture and enhancing connectivity across its stunning coastlines.
