Japan set to keep World Cup dream alive

The Japanese team made the rest of the World Cup contenders sit up and take notice after a 4-0 demolition of Spain in their final group game. Like Futoshi Ikeda’s side, the Spanish had won both their opening two fixtures but were blown away by a first-half counter-attacking blitz.

The Japanese scored three unanswered goals in the opening 40 minutes. All the more impressive considering coach Ikeda had made five changes to his side.

From 77% possession, Spain made over 900 passes in the game, at least 650 more than their opponents. Japan’s 4-0 win proved that what you do with the ball is more important than how often you have it.

As a result of topping their group, the Nadeshiko stay in Wellington where they will be confident of recording another win. Their opponents only progressed by the slenderest of margins.

A 6-0 defeat of the Philippines was their first win of the tournament and enough to edge out co-hosts New Zealand only on goal difference.

Japan vs Norway Predictions Bet 1: Japan to win 77/100 with BetKing

Front runner for Golden Boot to add to tally in Wellington.

Hinata Miyazawa scored two of the four goals in the victory over Spain. In doing so she moved to the front of the top-scorer standings.

This followed two goals in the opening game against Zambia. All four strikes showed supreme confidence, using her pace to get on the end of through balls or crosses. Never taking more than two touches for any of her goals.

The 23-year-old has formed a lethal strike partnership with Riko Ueki. What’s more, she will come into this fixture fresh having been taken off at half time in the rout of Spain. She is a must addition to our predictions for Japan vs Norway at those odds.

Japan vs Norway Predictions Bet 2: Hinata Miyazawa to score anytime 49/20 with BetKing.

No way past Yamashita for Scandanavians

While the four-goal blast against Spain kept Japan’s forward players in the headlines it nearly went unnoticed that they had registered another clean sheet. Goalkeeper Ayaka Yamashita is yet to concede in this tournament.

The 27-year-old is appearing in her second World Cup and has cemented her place as her nation’s best goalkeeper.

The Japanese Women’s Empowerment Professional Football League formed in June 2020. Yamashita has already been named in the team of the season and was named the league’s most valuable player in 2022. The only goalkeeper to have won the award.

Norway have struggled in this tournament. Failing to score in the opening round 1-0 defeat to New Zealand and then in the 0-0 draw with Switzerland. Only cutting loose against the Philippines.

The odds of another Japan shutout here are very attractive.

Japan vs Norway Bet 3: Home clean sheet Yes 6/5 with BetKing
