Japan set to keep World Cup dream alive

As a result of topping their group, the Nadeshiko stay in Wellington where they will be confident of recording another win. Their opponents only progressed by the slenderest of margins.
A 6-0 defeat of the Philippines was their first win of the tournament and enough to edge out co-hosts New Zealand only on goal difference.

The 27-year-old is appearing in her second World Cup and has cemented her place as her nation’s best goalkeeper.
The Japanese Women’s Empowerment Professional Football League formed in June 2020. Yamashita has already been named in the team of the season and was named the league’s most valuable player in 2022. The only goalkeeper to have won the award.
Norway have struggled in this tournament. Failing to score in the opening round 1-0 defeat to New Zealand and then in the 0-0 draw with Switzerland. Only cutting loose against the Philippines.
The odds of another Japan shutout here are very attractive.
