A call has gone to the Public Complaints Commission (PCC) to remain steadfast and objective in the discharge of its duties. The Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede,  Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board(JAMB), made this call when the leadership of the Commission paid him a courtesy visit at the Board’s National Headquarters, Bwari, on Tuesday, 21st November, 2023. “For objectivity to thrive, every party has to be confident in the Commission, it is pertinent to be fair to all parties involved,” he stressed. The Hon. Chief Commissioner of the Commission, ably represented by the Director, Public Investigation Sector, Mrs. Edna Edokpa, said the aim of the visit was to intimate the Board of the change in the leadership of the Public Sector Department of the Commission as well as to further strengthen the synergy with the Board in its drive to continuously ensure a balanced representation of issues relating to the Board’s operations in the realm of public opinion. The Commission’s Director of Private Investigation, Mrs. Helen Yusuf, who was also in the team,  thanked the Registrar for his warm reception, disclosed that the core mandate of the Commission is to  investigative complaints. According to her, a particular area of likely collaboration with the Board is that which concerns thorough investigation of complaints. She said, the Commission does not only entertain complaints from the public against organisations but also receive and investigate complaints emanating from them against members of the general public. She, therefore, said that the Board could also forward report on any of its erring stakeholders to the Commission for detailed and unbiased investigation. However, Mrs. Yusuf restated that the Commission has no power to prosecute or judge offenders as its mandate only covers the gathering and investigation of all viable information on a particular subject matter and thereafter hand over the report of the investigation to the appropriate authorities for further action.Earlier,  the Registrar in his welcome address, thanked the delegation for their kind remarks on the Board’s activities and operational standards. According to him, the partnership between the Commission and the Board is to the advantage of the society as a whole. He, therefore, solicited more collaboration in terms of  the speedy resolution of the various cases of infractions that had befuddled the Board over the years. He stated that the Board would be willing to hand over all its pending criminal cases to the Commission for proper handling so as to lessen the attendant stress. The Registrar decried a situation whereby almost all its cases bordering on examination infractions are still undergoing preliminary hearing at the various courts several months after they were first filed while the culprits are going about their normal lives unhindered. On a final note, he assured the visitors of his maximum cooperation towards  strengthening the relationship between the two organisations.Other members of the team on the working visit were, Mr. Ogunjobi Segun and Mrs. Chizoba MaryJane Madu.
