Jadon Sancho says his assist for Marco Reus on his first appearance back at Borussia Dortmund was ‘meant to be’ after arriving from Manchester United.

The 23-year-old has joined the German giants on a six-month loan deal for his second stint at the club following his public fallout with United boss Erik ten Hag.

Sancho was named on the bench for Dortmund’s Bundesliga clash at Darmstadt 98 on Saturday, replacing Jamie Bynoe-Gittens after 55 minutes played.

It took the England international winger just 22 minutes to grab an assist as Reus slotted home in the second half in a 3-0 victory for Dortmund.

‘I just feel like it was meant to be,’ Sancho said after the match. ‘Me coming back, seeing Marco again, he is a great friend of mine and I appreciate him. I am happy to set up his goal today.

‘Like I said all week, since I came back I have felt at home. I am just happy to be back on the pitch again.’

Quizzed about his aims for the rest of the season, Sancho added: ‘Just to be happy again. To be back on the pitch and help the team.

‘Get them back in the top three and qualify for the Champions League next year. I’ve got personal goals which I’m not going to say right now. I just want to help the team.

‘As you can see today we kept a clean sheet which was important for the team and we will take it game-by-game.

‘The team have objectives and I am sure we will do well if we fight in every game.’
