Sequel to the 24-hour curfew imposed in Mangu LGA of Plateau State, scores are feared to have been killed and their houses burnt in a fresh attack by yet-to-be-identified gunmen.

Lazarus Musa, a resident of the affected community, disclosed that the number of casualties cannot be determined for now.

He said: “I cannot give you the exact number of people killed but many were killed; more than 15 houses were burnt, as well as several shops destroyed.”

Newspot recalls that on Tuesday, the state government imposed a 24-hour curfew in the aforementioned council following what it described as a “deteriorating security situation ” in the area.

The state government also said the decision was taken in consultation with the relevant security agencies.

Also speaking, the Public Relations Officer of the Plateau State Police Command, DSP Alfred Alabo, called for calm, saying police operatives were on top of the situation.

Newspot recalls that Mangu LGA, a hitherto peaceful council, has been bedevilled by a serious security challenge that has claimed many lives and properties since April 2023.
