The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) will begin nationwide on August 18, 2025, as part of preparations for the 2027 General Elections. This was made public by the Resident Electoral Commissioner for Benue State, Professor Sam Egwu, during a press briefing in Makurdi. The registration will hold across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
This isn’t just another administrative update — it’s a national moment that demands our attention. It’s the first open door for citizens who haven’t yet registered to do so. It’s also the chance for anyone who has moved, changed names, or experienced issues with past registrations to get their records right.
The Permanent Voter’s Card (PVC) is not a formality — it’s a responsibility. It is the most direct tool we have to shape who leads us, how we are governed, and what kind of Nigeria we pass on to the next generation. Without it, decisions about your life and future will be made without your input.
As someone deeply invested in the future of our country, I, Otunba Babatunde Olushola Senbanjo, urge every eligible Nigerian to take this opportunity seriously. Don’t wait until the final week. Don’t sit this out. Register, collect your PVC, and encourage those around you to do the same — your siblings, your friends, your colleagues, your neighbors.
It’s easy to feel discouraged about the state of the nation. Many of us have every reason to be frustrated. But sitting on the sidelines and giving up on the process only guarantees that nothing changes. If we want new outcomes, we must show up — not just with our words, but with our votes.
And to be absolutely clear: our votes are not commodities.
No amount of money is worth trading away your future. The cost of vote-selling is far greater than what’s given in the moment — it’s years of regret, broken roads, empty schools, unpaid salaries, and unsafe streets. We’ve seen this story before. We must not repeat it.
This is our chance to draw a line — to say that our democracy matters, that we believe in accountability, and that we’re willing to do the work of building something better.
Let’s turn this voter registration into a movement — one that reaches every street, every compound, every local government.
Nigeria is not beyond repair. But it won’t fix itself. It needs all of us.
Let’s rise with purpose, with unity, and with determination.
