Ibiras no more visitors, recognised as Ibadan residents – Olubadan

The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Akinloye Owolabi Olakunlehin has declared that Ibira people who have been living in the ancient city are no more visitors but recognised residents of the ancient city.

Olakulehin made this declaration while receiving the Baale of Ibira Community in Ibadan, Chief Lamidi Aliu Balogun at his palace on Thursday.

The traditional ruler, who spoke through the Aremo, Prince Olasunmbo Owolabi Olakulehin, said that Ibadan has a long history of over 100 years of mutual relationship with the Ibira ethnic group.

He added that the Ibira were now recognised as residents of the ancient city.

Olubadan said, “Ibadan has a long history of over 100 years of mutual relationship with Ibira people. The Ibiras are no longer visitors but recognized residents of Ibadanland.

“We have therefore accepted them as one of us given the long standing peaceful co-existence and look forward to the continuity of the mutually beneficial relationship.”

Balogun earlier in his address, disclosed that their visit to the Olubadan was a tradition they have maintained over the years.

He said that they would continue to obey the laws and traditions of the ancient city.

Balogun described Ibadan as the most peaceful city in the world.

He used the opportunity to advocate for the creation of Ibadan State which according to him was long overdue.
