The eighth edition of the All Africa Music Awards, which held in Dakar, the capital of Senegal, between January 12 and 15, 2023, was another testament to the fact that the Nigerian music industry boasts of the biggest stars on the African content.

Majority of the awards at the grand finale of the event were scooped up by Nigerian artistes, such as David Adeleke (Davido), Ayodeji Balogun (Wizkid), Damini Ogulu (Burna Boy), and Adekunle Gold.

The pop duo of Peter and Paul Okoye of P-Square also gave an electrifying performance, which showed why their fans missed them during the separation. Right from the moment they mounted the stage, the atmosphere was charged, as fans in the 15,000-capacity Dakar Arena screamed in excitement.

Speaking on behalf of the group, Paul apologised to their fans for their messy break-up, which lasted for many years. He said, “There was no P-Square for six years. (However), Mr P kept P-Square alive; Rudeboi kept P-Square alive. Thank you, guys, for your patience.

“We owe you guys an apology. But, even as we went apart, we kept the music alive.”

Singer, Tiwa Savage, was also on top of her game as she thrilled the fans, and commented on the beauty of Senegalese people. According to her, that was her first visit to the Francophone country. She said, “I am visiting Dakar for the first time. Your country is so beautiful; even your women. I am so glad that my boyfriend is not here tonight.”

“Senegalese women are beautiful but I’m not convinced about the jollof rice yet. You guys have to take me home for that tonight,” she teased.
