First Ladies and critical stakeholders from across Nigeria converged on the Congress Hall of the Transcorp Hilton, Abuja, on Thursday, December 4, 2025, for the 6th Annual Summit of the Nigeria Governors’ Spouses’ Forum (NGSF).

The summit, themed “United for Change: Men and Women Ending Digital Violence Together,” brought together government leaders, development partners, and civil society organizations committed to building safer digital spaces for Nigerians—especially women and children who remain disproportionately affected by online abuse.

A key highlight of the event was the participation of the Coordinator of the Office of the First Lady of Akwa Ibom State, Lady Helen Eno Obareki, who served as a panelist during the session moderated by the Chairperson of the NGSF and wife of the Kwara State Governor, Professor Olufolake AbdulRazaq.

Speaking on the topic “Safeguarding Her Digital Space: Policies & Platforms for Protection,” Lady Obareki underscored the power of collaboration in curbing digital violence against women and girls. She shared practical strategies on how government institutions, civil society groups, and technology companies can work together to ensure prompt response to online abuse, strengthen accountability systems, and build digital platforms that prioritize safety for vulnerable users.

Her participation comes just four weeks after she hosted female tech leaders, entrepreneurs, innovators, and policymakers at the GIFA Women in Tech Breakfast Roundtable in Uyo, where she announced a transformative initiative to train 500 women annually in relevant technology skills. Observers say her appearance at the NGSF summit reinforces Akwa Ibom State’s growing leadership in women-focused digital empowerment.

The summit also featured a second panel titled “Brothers for Change: Engaging Men as Allies in Ending Violence in the Digital Space,” recognizing the crucial role men must play in shaping safer, more respectful online environments. Wives of governors from all 36 states attended the gathering, further strengthening national consensus around combating digital violence.
