Alhaji Abdulkadir becomes the 16th Emir of the Gusau Emirate Council following the death of his father, Dr. Ibrahim Bello, who passed away on July 25, 2025, after 10 years on the throne.

The Secretary to the Zamfara State Government, Malam Abubakar Mohammad Nakwada, announced the appointment in a statement on Tuesday, stating that the decision was based on the recommendation of the Gusau Emirate kingmakers and in line with traditional customs and applicable laws.

Until his appointment, the new Emir held the traditional title of Bunun Gusau. He is also the eldest son of the late monarch.
