Alejandro Garnacho has been fined after admitting he sped away from Manchester United’s training ground in Greater Manchester just days before completing his move to Chelsea.
Alejandro Garnacho, 21, was driving a black Audi RS 3 when he triggered a speed camera near the Carrington facility. Court documents show he was clocked at 50mph in a 40mph zone on 26 August, four days before sealing a £40 million transfer to Chelsea.
Garnacho admitted the offence through lawyers at JMW Solicitors and apologised to the court. Magistrate Jane Haynes handed him a £660 fine, ordered him to pay £120 in costs and imposed a £264 victim surcharge. He also received three penalty points on his driving licence.
“Mr Garnacho accepts that he committed the offence of exceeding the speed limit and has pleaded guilty to the offence,” his lawyers wrote.
“Mr Garnacho explains this was an oversight on his part and apologises for the offence.
“Our client is embarrassed that he is currently in this position and apologises to the Court for the excess speed offence.”
Garnacho was initially charged with failing to respond to a letter from Greater Manchester Police asking him to identify the driver of the vehicle. That charge was dropped after he pleaded guilty to speeding.
Court papers state the incident took place at 17:51 BST on Carrington Lane near the entrance to United’s training ground. The case was dealt with last week under the Single Justice Procedure in a closed hearing.
The Argentina international, who rose through United’s academy but fell out of favour under former boss Ruben Amorim, has made 36 appearances for Chelsea and scored seven goals since his switch.
