Fuel Subsidy Removal: Tinubu Takes The Right Decision–Yuguda

Former Bauchi State Governor, Mallam Isa Yuguda has come out to insist that the Bola Tinubu administration took the right step in bringing an end to the contentious fuel subsidy payments completely inspite the ongoing economic hardship that Nigerians are passing through due to the high cost of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) across the country,

Speaking during an interview on Channels TV’s ‘Sunrise Daily’ on Monday 26 June , Yuguda, who is also the Chairman, of the Board Of Trustees of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Professionals Forum, argued that the entrenched corruption that trailed the payments of fuel subsidies over the years was so bad that poor Nigerians were dying at the expense of the nation’s political class.

Going further, the former governor alleged that Buhari was well-informed about the corruption of fuel subsidies but might have lacked the political will to remove it.

He said; “The former President (Buhari) may not have done it because of the entrenched interest, or even at the risk of his life. But, at least, the President of Nigeria is well protected, so if I was him, I would have bitten the bullet and taken the decision to remove the subsidy. Because the poor are out there dying every day and we, the political class, were busy feeding on them in collaboration with foreigners.

The Nigerian President is well protected. So I am left to wonder why it was not removed earlier. Maybe the issue was shrouded in something we cannot understand. As a worker, your job is to take decisions daily. Even if those decisions could be right or wrong. But in this case, the former president saw a good decision that should be taken and he did not. Why are you afraid?”
