In a shocking act of frustration, a Nigerian graduate recently set fire to all his academic certificates, raising questions about the value of education in Nigeria.

The man, who completed his studies at Ajayi Crowther University, expressed his disappointment in the country’s job market, claiming that his qualifications had failed to secure him employment over the past 14 years.

The graduate revealed that the few jobs he managed to acquire did not require proof of his educational background.

To make matters worse, he found himself competing against individuals without any formal education.

“What is the essence of a certificate when I’m dragging jobs with illiterates?” he exclaimed.

Moreover, he argued that the significance of these certificates diminished when Nigerians traveled abroad, as they were often required to undergo qualifying exams to prove their competence.

He even highlighted the disheartening fact that even the highest position in the country, the presidency, seemed susceptible to forgery.

Consequently, the graduate concluded that individuals would be better off pursuing vocational skills or trades rather than investing time and resources into obtaining degrees.

In a bold act of protest, he set ablaze all his certificates, from primary school to university and even his NYSC certificates.

This incident has sparked a wider debate on the various social media apps regarding the relevance of education in Nigeria.
