The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) has called for improved laws and services to end gender-based violence in the country.

The Kogi State chairperson of NAWOJ, Stella Edoka, made the call in a statement issued at the end of the association’s activities to mark this year’s 16 days of activism against gender-based violence in Lokoja.

Edoka also called on governments to establish referral centres for sexually assaulted victims.

According to the statement, more actions are needed to ensure women in all their diversity live free of violence and coercion.

The statement said that to end violence against women and girls, there is a need to challenge the attitudes that rationalise, normalise, and perpetrate violence and deny women’s rights.
