Fake Speculators & many Podcasters are now spreading false News in Nigeria. It must stop. By Wumi Akintide

The Government now have a responsibility to begin to address the problem in Nigeria and other African countries.

If many fans of the Facebook and Social Media have not noticed that the proliferation of social media podcasters have now reached a dangerous level that very responsible Governments in Africa but more so in Nigeria now have cause to begin to pay attention from now on as a public policy.

Those Podcasters have more than once falsely announced the death of Governor Akeredolu and nobody has challenged them or forced them to recount or issue an apology to the Governor, or to his family and to thousands of his fans like me around the world who were misled to think that the Governor had died.

How could they continue to make and spread such horrible News any time they feel like and without double- checking their facts?

The last time I saw the News on the Social Media, I was devastated and depressed for days until I later got confirmation it was a hoax.

I suspected it was fake News because it wasn’t carried by any of the popular credible Channels like Channel TV, Arise TV and TVC to mention a few

The picture captured below is therefore the first official confirmation that Governor Akeredolu was sick but not dead or totally incapacitated as twice rumored or widely speculated on the Social Media Platform without any apology from those spreading the false News till now.

I can well imagine the trauma of such false News on the Governor himself on his sick bed and on his wife and children not to talk of the whole Owo Community where the Governor comes first talk less of his ruling political Party the APC and the whole of Ondo State he has creditably presided over as Governor for more than 6 years and counting.

It is not joke to announce that a Governor is dead when he is not.

The Federal Governments and Law Enforcement Agencies in Nigeria ought to consider it as part of their responsibilities to warn any podcaster spreading such false News from time to time to stop doing it.

The same concern and resentment must be shown against false Pastors making false predictions on the Social Media under false pretenses.

Some of them even announce by name how many famous Nigerians including famous traditional rulers are going to die like they did in the case of the late Alaafin of Oyo colorful Oba Lamidi Adeyemi the Third.

Even though the prediction did come true at last but it makes no sense to make the announcement public like that in the public domain without the expressed permission of the individuals concerned.

It is an abuse of the freedom of expression for Pastors to keep on making such predictions without the permission of the individuals concerned.

It is even worse when the predictions don’t come thru and there are occasions when many of those predictions have proved to be totally false.

I recall General Overseer famous Pastor Tunde Bakare announcing to his Later Saints Congregation and to the whole country that God has assured him he was going to be the successor to President Buhari and the 16th President of Nigeria.

When his prediction came out to be totally wrong, he did not apologize to his Congregation or to Nigerians for misleading us.

He just kept quite or disappeared into thin air with his tail between his legs like they say in English.

That is not right at all.

The Pastor as a Board-, certified attorney and a former running mate to President Buhari way back in 2011 should have tendered an unreserved apology to Nigerians and to his Later Saints Congregation.

I personally hold the very eloquent Cleric in very high esteem up to that point and even till now and I expected him to not just keep quiet.

May be His God has decided to change His mind.

We all deserve to know why?

Nigerians reserve the right to know what happened?

Why not if not is the question that Nigerians reserved the right to ask the famous convert preacher from Muslim to Christianity?

I raise this point not to disrespect or ridicule the preacher but because I value and cherish him to much to just keep quiet and not say a word.

I rest my case.
