“Even school principal never see 80k talk more of teacher” – Netizens laments over low income of teachers in private schools

A Nigerian man identified @Letter_to_Jack has come online to share how Nigerian private schools charge exorbitant prices for a pupils’ school fees and pay their teachers a meagre amount as renumeration.

The man asserted that a day will come when there will be a proper discussion on how some private schools charge hundreds of thousands per pupil in school fees and pay teachers less than N80k.

According to his words on X, he wrote;

One day, we are going to talk about how private schools charge hundreds of thousands per pupil in school fees and pay teachers less than N80k. Until then, Private school teachers should unionize and wait.

Quoting his tweet, netizens then lamented on the low income teachers receive as salary even when they have to render more than the required task. They stated how some teachers earn half of the minimum wage, 30k and probably the principal might receive 80k, which is very rare.

@Ajibex15 You won’t believe I once worked for a big school that has more than 400 students and paid the teachers 25k per month as far back as 2019. He adds 2k as an increase in salary at the end of the session. The owner invests in buildings and pays his staff peanuts.

@__communicator_ Even yesterday, we talked about this offline. Very unfair, a rip-off. You can’t practically become anything in life when you depend on such stipend alone.
