Erik ten Hag is determined to retain his influence over Manchester United’s biggest transfer decisions once Sir Jim Ratcliffe completes his minority takeover at Old Trafford.

INOES chairman Ratcliffe saw his £1.3billion bid to acquire 25 per cent of the club accepted on Christmas Eve with the deal expected to be officially ratified by the Premier League in the coming weeks.

As part of the deal, Ratcliffe will assume full control of football operations at the club. Sir David Brailsford, director of sport at INEOS, is expected to revamp United’s recruitment department with the appointment of a sporting director at Old Trafford expected to be one of their first tasks.

ESPN report however that ten Hag is eager to retain some control of the decision-making process around recruitment.

The Dutchman joined United from Ajax in May 2022. United’s current structure sees both the manager and recruitment department given a veto on transfers, with potential new signings needing to be approved by both parties.

That power to veto is written into ten Hag’s contract, according to the report, with the manager expecting it to be honoured under the new regime.

United’s recruitment under ten Hag has been widely questioned since his arrival in Manchester with the decision to spent £85million on Antony, having previously been valued at £25m by the club, heavily criticised.

Summer signings Mason Mount, Andre Onana and Rasmus Hojlund have also come under scrutiny while Ratciffe is thought to have specifically questioned the signing of Casemiro from Real Madrid in 2022.

Ratcliffe visited United’s training ground on Tuesday and has scheduled talks with ten Hag.

‘I look forward [to it],’ Ten Hag said after the deal was announced.

‘They want to work with me, I want to work with them, we will have the conversations, the meetings. We will see.

‘I think it’s a good thing, it’s very positive. We are looking forward to working together. INEOS wants to work with me in this structure and I want to work with them.’
