EPL: You made big mistake – Michael Owen slams Ten Hag over Ronaldo

Former Manchester United striker Michael Owen has said that Erik ten Hag made a mistake with his decision on Cristiano Ronaldo.

Owen is of the opinion that the Dutch boss should have made the 37-year-old a regular in his team selection.

According to Owen, Ronaldo could have solved the team’s goal-scoring issues.

The Portugal captain’s deal was terminated by the Red Devils following his controversial interview with Piers Morgan.

Ten Hag has demanded 20 goals a season from Marcus Rashford and Owen believes United already had a 20-goal-a-season attacker.

He said, “I hear Ten Hag talking about Marcus Rashford probably needing to score 20 goals this, that and the other. Well, they had 20 goals sitting right under his nose but, unfortunately, he was sitting on the bench a lot of the time.

“The way things were going, there had to be an end to it, but it didn’t have to be like that. He could have played him every week and then he would have solved this problem of scoring goals and that’s the point.”

Ronaldo scored 24 goals for the Red Devils last season under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick but did not find favour in the sight of Erik ten Hag, who prefers to use Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial in his attack.
