Abia, Nigeria — Political tension is heightening in Abia North as Chief (Dr.) Emeka Charles Kalu, Chairman of the ECK Foundation, has issued a strong-worded response to Senator Orji Uzor Kalu’s recent claim that the Abia North Senate seat “belongs to him until he is done.”
Describing the statement as “undemocratic and insulting to the collective will of Ndi Abia North,” Chief Kalu said such a remark from a former governor and sitting senator is “a direct affront to the people’s constitutional right to freely elect their representatives.”
“Let it be made abundantly clear that no individual owns a democratic seat in Nigeria. The Senate seat for Abia North belongs to the people, not to any man, family, or political dynasty,”
Kalu stated.
“Power, in every sense, flows from the people, and no amount of personal entitlement or boastful rhetoric can override the sovereign rights of the electorate.”
The philanthropist and political leader emphasized that the 2027 elections will be defined by competence, integrity, and service delivery — not personal ownership or political monopolies.
“While Senator Kalu is entitled to his ambition, he must also respect the tenets of democracy, which demand open contest, fairness, and accountability,”
he added.
“We are not intimidated by any self-proclaimed political monopoly. Abia North deserves fresh ideas, purposeful leadership, and a voice that speaks truth to power — not recycled arrogance disguised as experience.”
Chief Kalu reaffirmed his commitment to the progress of Abia North, expressing faith that the people will decide their future through the ballot, not through declarations of dominance.
“Democracy thrives on choice — and in 2027, Abia North will choose progress over pride. It is only God that gives power,” he concluded.
