Speaking on Arise Television’s ‘Morning Show’ on Monday, Nwagwu, however, said electronic transmission of results is not enough.

According to him, electoral reforms must include electronic transfer and collation of results.

“My quick sense is that the current agitation we have seen around the Electoral Act is positive. Positive in the sense that we have more and more citizens asking questions concerning governance and the activities of those who govern us.

“So the more you have people and more citizens engaging the issue of lawmaking, the more it is that we are expanding the democratic space.

“Having said that, it is also important to say that the electronic transmission of results is important, but it is not far reaching. The Act should include electronic transmission and collation of results.

“The IREV may not be equipped to convert electoral results sent in real-time as images to numbers, so we must also digitise the collation process to block any form of malpractice,” he said.
