DLA Piper’s GenAI-Backed Legal Training Simulator: Transforming Lawyer Training for the AI Era

Global law firm DLA Piper has launched an advanced GenAI-supported legal training simulator known as the Advanced Negotiations and Structuring Academy (ANSAi). The innovative program is transforming how lawyers are trained, combining artificial intelligence with real-world simulations to build high-level strategic, ethical, and negotiation skills among its lawyers.

ANSAi, which began in the Finance practice, has now expanded to include the Employment and Real Estate teams, providing a comprehensive, immersive experience for participants. Over six weeks, lawyers engage in a simulated, high-stakes infrastructure project in Greenland, navigating complex stakeholder dynamics, political tensions, and commercial risks. Participants act as principal negotiators, making decisions under pressure, while being guided by experts from various fields, including crisis negotiators, AI advisors, and senior partners.

The training is not just about using AI to automate legal tasks; it is about equipping lawyers with capabilities that AI cannot replace, such as ethical judgment, strategic leadership, and creative problem-solving. DLA Piper has positioned ANSAi as a model for the future of legal training, emphasizing the need to develop skills that remain critical even as AI handles routine tasks.

According to Fredrik Lindblom, Projects partner in DLA Piper’s Finance practice in London, the program is designed to ensure that lawyers can leverage AI as a strategic enhancer while retaining critical human skills. “We are not just using AI to save time, but to think better, move faster, and make clearer decisions under pressure,” he emphasized.
